A payslip shows gross pay, deductions (tax, National Insurance, pension, etc.), and net pay. Your tax code tells your employer how much tax-free income to apply.
Tax codes (overview)
Tax codes are set by HMRC and can change during the year. If your code looks wrong, you can check your Personal Tax Account or contact HMRC — do not rely on informal sources for personal tax decisions.
National Insurance
National Insurance contributions may be deducted from employment income and fund state benefits and services. Rates and thresholds change — refer to official HMRC guidance.
Part-time work
Part-time income is generally taxable in the usual way through PAYE. Visa conditions may limit working hours — always follow your visa rules.
